Taurus Investment Holdings, LLC and global entertainment company A24 have completed the acquisition of Cherry Lane Theatre, the oldest continuously running Off-Broadway theater. The partnership plans to refurbish Cherry Lane, while preserving the historic nature of the West Village building.
Originally built as a brewery in 1836, the building was converted in 1932 into the Cherry Lane Playhouse and has been associated with some of the greatest playwrights, actors and actresses of the 20th century, such as Tennessee Williams, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Harold Pinter and Edna St. Vincent Millay, and continues to be a leading venue for off-Broadway productions. Taurus’ renovation will meet design standards that retain the theatre’s original character within the West Village neighborhood.
