It’s taken 11 years and gone through several lawsuits, but the massive 2,600-acre, 40.6-million-square-foot World Logistics Center industrial project is finally scheduled to break ground in Moreno Valley at the end of 2023. Comprised of 27 buildings, the development will be one of the world’s largest logistics centers and will create over 33,000 construction and operations jobs.

Originally proposed in 2012 and approved by the Moreno Valley City Council in 2015, the project has been waylaid by multiple lawsuits filed by environmental and conservation groups over the project’s impact on air quality and wildlife, but those have all now been settled. According to the Press-Enterprise, developer Highland Fairview will break ground on the World Logistics Center located off Redlands Boulevard and Gilman Springs Road in the fourth quarter of this year.

The project will be designed and engineered by Stantec, who plans on making the facility carbon-neutral by adding solar power to its rooftops, reducing water usage by 70% and including over 1,000 EV charging stations. Moreno Valley will benefit from $22 million in taxes annually and an estimated $3 billion that will be pumped into the economy.
